The foreword to this reprinted book was written by Bernard Harrison. A world renowned zoologist, he was also the executive director of the Singapore Zoo from 1981 to 2002.
He wrote,”Men and animals share the world. However it is sometimes difficult to realise that in Singapore for we are living in high rise-flats devoid of forests, wetlands and mangrove that our grandparents had known. The haze from forest fires which burn in surrounding countries are a great reminder that we all share the same environment and that Singaporeans do not live in the artificial bubble that we have tried to create.”
The plight of the orangutans were highlighted in Tony Tapir and Friends where Oona Orangutan the matriarch’s daughter was killed mysteriously. In reality this was caused by human beings due to the haze which Bernard Harrison mentioned . But the authoress Patricia Chew has woven a delightful tale about the mysterious murders of the animals. Read how Tony Tapir, an emerging leader in his tapir community shadows Rex the Lion Chief and Rajah the Elephant and forms life long friendships with Horatio the Horse and Rudianto Rhinoceros. Find out more about the bravery of the young animals Topsy and Tara Tapir and their other friends as they rescue one of them from being caught by the murderer.Discover also how the Guardians of the Forest together with the other animals like Muna Monkey 🙉 and her community put their differences aside and come together to catch the murderer and enter into a time of celebration when the culprit has been defeated.
The lions🦁including their cubs used eco- friendly methods to build the broken down fortresses and walls in the Spice Garden.🪴
